Fitness in the City
Paying attention to one’s physical health is one of the most important things an individual can do. Not enough people consider fitness a priority, but a lot of us have set resolutions or goals in this new year regarding health. Instead of choosing a national, corporate-run fitness facility, why not choose something Denver based?
The Wash Park Rec Center sits at about 701 South Franklin Street, near the boat house and is an excellent alternative to swankier sites. The great thing about getting a membership with the city is that (depending on the level you purchase) you have access to all the centers throughout Denver proper. I’ve been a member of the city rec centers for a few years, and I love being able to directly support my city and stay fit in the process!
The rec center in the Park has ample space for play and work: it’s got an indoor pool, gym, weight room, and multi-purpose room. It’s got great instructors that offer classes in lots of activities like aqua aerobics, pottery, karate, yoga, and sport conditioning.
The only downside are the limited hours: Monday through Thursday 6am-8:30pm, Friday 6am-7pm, Saturday 8am-3pm, and Sunday 11am-4pm, but I think it’s worth it to keep our money local. Give the center a call (303-698-4962) to ask about membership prices and class specifics.
