Superior Morgul-Classic to get promotional boost
In the late 70s and early 80s, the steep roads and challenging cycling routes around Superior made it a hub for competitive cycling. During those days, the Red Zinger Classic and the Coors Original Classic hosted hundreds, if not thousands, of cyclists from around the world. After a prolonged hiatus, the races of the area have experienced a renaissance in the past four years with the Superior Morgul-Classic - held on Memorial Day weekend in Superior.
Late last year, organizational duties for the race were shifted from the Town of Superior to Boulder Racing - a race-centric promotional firm for cycling
events. This month it was announced that the Superior Morgul-Classic would be partnering with USA Pro Cycling Challenge to enhance the reach and capacity of both events.
Winners of the men's and women's Morgul-Bismark challenge will also get to ride the final stage of the time trial for the USA Pro Cycling Challenge in Denver in late August 2012. Also, the part of the Morgul challenge lovlingly known as "the Wall" will be renamed the "USA Pro Challenge King of the Mountain."
When the USA Pro Cycling Challenge comes through Denver each year, hundreds of thousands of spectators - local and otherwise - fill the sidewalks to see their favorite athletes race. Superior is sure to benefit from having those additional eyes focus on the Morgul-Classic - a move that would boost the town's cycling culture and business revenue.
