Come out and get your hands dirty this weekend! This Saturday, May 19, the City of Boulder is sponsoring its Annual Clean Up Day. My kids and I attended last year and it was really fun! They provide the materials and you show up with your family [or alone] to help ensure our parks are maintained. This year there is a clean up effort at Harlow Platts Park and many others from 8:30 to 11:30am. The clean up is followed by an ice cream social from 11:30 to 12:30 at a few locations including Harlow Platts. If you have not registered you need to do so at Scott Carpenter Park [30th Street and Arapahoe Avenue] between 8:00 and 8:30am. Not only do you get to attend the ice cream social, but all participants will receive a one-day pass to the Boulder Reservoir. To learn more about Boulder's Community Clean-up Day, including all clean-up locations, click here. I hope to see you all there!

Coworking. What is it? I keep hearing about it.

It’s a place where people come to work, so they can accomplish more together than they could on their own. It’s for people who don’t want to work in isolation.

In Downtown Loveland, coworkers gather at The Armory - a shared workspace where freelancers, creative types, entrepreneurs, remote workers and independent professionals gather to collaborate and interact as part of a local community. Members bring their laptops, coffee mugs and ideas. They gather at community desks under high ceilings, surrounded by exposed brick walls and 12-foot high windows in the historic Loveland Depot building. There’s a conference room, high speed, networked office machines and a kitchenette, all within walking distance of downtown. Check out the gallery here. Find out about memberships here.

Summer is coming fast and if you are thinking about having a large gathering, consider one of Boulder's many parks. The Boulder parks are so beautiful and what a great place to host a large group or party. They offer access to the park, bathrooms, running water, and much more. You can reserve shelters at Eben G. Fine Park, Martin Park [close to SoBo], Foothills Community Park, North Boulder Park and Tom Watson Park. But you can reserve space at most of the other parks as well, including Harlow Platts Park, right here is SoBo. To find out more about an individual park, or reserving a park or shelter, head to the City of Boulder website here.

There is another new game in town in the fro-yo biz- we recently welcomed the Yogurt Guru's second location at 32nd and Lowell.

A Denver based low- and non-fat frozen yogurt company, the Yogurt Guru has signed a long term commitment in North Denver. The first location has been open since May 2009 in Cherry Creek with tremendous success.

Many flavors are actually locally made and all natural. The store utilizes an innovative self-serve concept, so you can put exactly what you want in your own cup. You can try all the flavors or just one and put the exact amount of each topping you want.

The store is open until 11 pm during the week and til midnight on weekends, so it is even a great spot to hit late-night.

"Yogurt Guru” is located in Denver at 3617 W 32nd Ave, 80211

This Saturday, May 19, Boulder residents will take paintbrushes to the bleak ground and transform it into something vibrant and awe-worthy. You may wonder who these folks are, making sure the surface we walk on is filled with shades and shapes that serenade those that pass by. They could be you. Founded in 2006, this neighborhood community project, allows residents to come together and create a permanent piece that is sure to reflect the true essence of the area.

Christie Slater of NoBo’s Tinker Art Studio has designed the mural set to grace the road. She is excited about participating in the upcoming Paint the Pavement Block Party and encourages all to come out and let creative visions flow and intermingle. The art is going down in the Holiday Neighborhood, at the intersection of 16th and Zamia from 9am-4pm.

These unique neighborhood creations have been popping up in Portland, Oregon and St. Paul, Minnesota. Boulder is just one of the progressive cities that have taken the initiative to craft a masterpiece that exudes connection and purpose.

Born out of one woman’s desire to create gathering places, a neighborhood’s own town square of sorts, Paint the Pavement has been going strong for six years. Andrea Erickson of St. Paul was super intrigued by the artistic street work happening in Portland through a non-profit called City Repair. After visiting the city and speaking with the residents about the positive group effort to add beauty to their community, Erickson longed to bring this to her hometown and it looks like it will only be a matter of time before the craze catches on nationwide.

This will be the third Paint the Pavement happening in Boulder. Last year the neighborhood of Gross Grove got decked out with dragonflies, crystals and a pink lotus flower. The mural, designed by resident and oil painter Jan Burch, encapsulates the beauty, spirituality and over all Zen-vibe of Boulder while subtly paying homage to Naropa and the Dushanbe Tea House.

Back in 2009, Martin Acres residents crafted a mural on the roadway of South 31st Street, between the two intersections of Bucknell Court.

This dynamic project truly helps open up a dialogue between neighbors. Nothing says bonding like letting your imagination run wild with people on your block. Share more than a fence and a zip code! Share a memory that will literarily stick through spring showers and winter snowstorms!

In addition to getting to show your artsy side, you can enjoy a bevy of snacks provided by some local favs. Refreshments will be donated by Izze Drinks, 4580 Restaurant, Uptown Subs, Lucky’s Market, Spruce Confections and the Tasterie Truck! Now that’s all the more reason to pick up a roller, and a can of paint, and be a part of your ‘hood’s history.

Want to make the street shine with warm shades and plenty of personality! Let’s transform asphalt into conversation starters! For more info on Saturday’s event click here.

Up until the end of 2011 pedestrians and children on bicycles had to negotiate the incomplete sidewalk network in Bradburn. Since then eight corner lots have either finished construction of a new home, or are under construction brining much anticipated continuity and experience of this planned walk able community.

Completing the sidewalk infrastructure through the construction of new homes not only brings the community closer to build out, it contributes to the overall safety for pedestrians and in particular children on bicycles.

Prominent locations where people can expect to connect and use new sidewalks now or very soon are:

Bradburn Boulevard & Raleigh Place (south side)

Bradburn Boulevard & Quitman Street (west side)

Quitman Place & Quitman Street (east side)

Perry Street & West 116th Way (north side)

Newton Street & West 116th Way (east side)

Osceola Street & 117th Court (northeast corner)

It is very exciting for Bradburn to have seen so much construction activity in recent months, bringing with it one of the critical amenities to the community; a continuous sidewalk system for non-motorized inter-community transportation.

School is almost out for the summer! Are you looking for a fun summer camp to send your kids to?

Boulder Indoor Soccer is holding soccer camp Monday through Friday all summer long. There are Indoor and Outdoor Programs to choose from. The camp is created for kids ages 4-16 and can either be scheduled for full days or half days. They’ve set it up so your child can either attend specifically chosen days of the week or a full week. The indoor camp is held at Boulder Indoor Soccer’s Home at 2845 29th St. and the outdoor camps are held in Boulder at the Pleasant View Soccer Complex, at 3805 47th St.. Both of these locations are conveniently about 3 minutes away for us who live in Kings Ridge neighborhood.

This is an amazing place to send a kid to learn to play soccer and work on his/her game. I recently put my son in SoccerTots, which is another great program Boulder Indoor Soccer offers. It’s a lot of fun for my 2 year old and myself. He is just learning to really move and kick the ball. SoccerTots is definitely teaching him coordination and is a good way to burn some energy. Even though he is too young for camp now, I’m sure he’ll be asking to go in the near future. The coaches are splendid. For more information click here or call 303-440-0306
